The Treasures of Montezuma

Cancun, Mexico 1935. Graduate student Emily Jones didn't know what she was getting into when she accepted a summer position cataloging the exhibits at the Archeological Museum in Cancun. For her, the job provided an opportunity to study some of the amazing artifacts of the ancient cultures that had resided in the land now known as Mexico. While elbow-deep in dull paperwork, she was drawn to a mysterious stone edifice in the center of the Museum's library. Ancient notes penned by a Spanish monk who had served as a missionary to the Aztec tribes mentioned a similar structure. He claimed it was a map pointing to a secret Aztec city.

Numerous legends said the city was the resting place of Montezuma's Calendar, a supernatural relic that granted its possessor a long life. The monk's notes said sun stones that could be acquired in a game of magic would show the way to the city. But the stone construction bore no instructions for playing the game. Undaunted, Ms. Jones searched the museum for clues and eventually found a dusty box of colored tokens in a forgotten corner of the repository. Noting that some of the tokens were adorned with gems, the young woman began assembling the objects in various combinations. When she found the correct order, the tokens disappeared, leaving the gems behind. Even more incredible, new tokens appeared in their place!
