Defense of Roman Britain

A beautiful tower defense with cartoon graphics and a good soundtrack. It is very rare to see a game of this genre with the possibility of upgrading buildings, I recommend this game to everyone.

Game was really fun up until the 11th level the and then it's frustrating on how fast the difficulty jumped. The sheer amount amount of enemies and the seriously insufficient money to purchase enough traps and upgrades to handle it is near impossible. One map (level 10 where you have to defend 2 catapults) you only have 4 build points to the north where there was an enemy spawn point. so many mobs no matter what 4 traps i get crushed (most traps have level 5 or 6 gear)- i got steamrolled over and over. I'm not sure if this was intentional to force the player to grind / repeat previous levels to buy better gears - but this sapped all the enjoyment playing.

Does Defense of Roman Britain deserve to be chosen for playing among many other similar tower defense games? One can find some positives speaking in its favor - an attractive historical background, some original ideas like convoys, presence of quests, interesting systems of weapon upgrades, big number of enemy units types, solid economic model, challenging yet not frustrating difficulty, user friendly interface, nice graphics and… However, there are also many downsides - not very interesting story and its presentation, some enemies approach your convoy almost immediately, some shortcuts cut more than half of the path for enemies, special weapons and spells are not very effective, the game plays almost all its cards in the first few levels, so there is not much to discover later, low differences between enemy’s infantry units, unpredictability of air units’ paths, only few music tracks and the absence of dubbing. Thanks to easy accessibility and simple mechanics the game is suitable for playing with kids that can learn something about the history and develop their strategic thinking.
