The weakest of the series. Developers changed up the format from helping ghosts trapped in between worlds to some evil virus you have to shoot with light guns. The bonus chapter was the worst part of the game. You have to defeat the evil virus blob monster by clicking on matching symbols, but the game is laggy and glitchy so if you don't have split second timing, you get a large rock thrown right at your face/screen over and over. Broken Sword 3 taught us that those kinds of puzzles are never fun and wind up ruining the game. Particularly when presented at the end because it leaves an awful taste in your mouth for the game as a whole. The collectibles can be tricky to find since they are nothing more than jack-o-lantern faces scattered throughout each location. The voice acting is hideously, embarrassingly bad. Our heroine's voice is so high pitched, she sounds like she sucked a balloon of helium before stepping up to the microphone. The music is terrible and so repetitive that you will find yourself turning it down or off when trying to solve longer puzzles as it grates on the nerves. The game tried to modernize the graphics and gameplay, but not in a good way. I enjoyed the old school hand icons when finding collectibles and didn't need flashy 3-D optics. There are quite a few instances where the game is glitchy and the screen jumps like a VCR on pause. Especially when zooming in for a closer look at items. Luckily my game didn't crash, but it felt like it wanted to a few times. Weakest effort in the House of 1000 Doors series. Too bad.

This is a good puzzle, hidden object game. Some of the puzzles are difficult to solve ?

Let me start by saying I LOVE the House of 1000 Doors series. Nothing can ever beat the first one, but the second and third were excellent as well. Now to talk about the fourth. While the characters had a huge ramp up with their graphics and design, the rest of the game was a crash and burn failure, totally not up to par with the first three. Not only was the game enormously bugged with glitches in almost every other scene, the cut scenes were terrible quality, you just had to cringe your way through it. I will admit it was an interesting premise to test yourself against the other members of the house, but I really enjoyed all the characters as "good guys" and was not thrilled with having to fight them. Also, after the bonus game in Serpent's Flame, I was expecting the fourth game to be about Kate learning about her ancestry with the people of light, maybe even a little romance with Rafael, not some teenage nobody as the main character. Overall, I was extremely disappointed with this game, especially the glitches which nearly made gameplay impossible, but if you haven't played the first three in the series, absolutely do so, they are incredible!

A fun tromp through the game's worlds. I enjoyed playing this game. The bonus game is more like the traditional Hidden Object game, but the main game is still just as fun.

I’d probably go with a mixed review if I could. This game is the fourth in the series for House of 1000 Doors. Like the others in this series, this game has some good points, such as the instant travel map and the built-in walkthrough. However, there is a lot of pixel-hunting and I didn’t like the new mini-games, so I’ll go with a thumbs down.

This game introduces a new protagonist and some new game mechanics. No additional games have been made in this series, so apparently the changes weren’t that popular. It’s still a hidden object game and I could live with Emily as the main character instead of Kate as in the first three games. However, I didn’t like the new mini-games which appeared every time you use the power of light to fight evil. When Emily tries to cast a light spell, you have to trace a pattern. In the bonus chapter, when Kate tries to use a light gun, you have to click on a spinner when it gets to the right color. These are tests of reflexes, not logical puzzles. Having to do them once would be bad enough, but having to do them repeatedly gets to be really annoying.

This is my 3rd House of a Thousand Doors. This game introduces a character we have not seen. With this introduction, the entire game fell flat compared to the others. There are characters from the other games but in this release, they do not support the story as much. The lack of support from other characters makes it much harder to enjoy the story or content. The game play in this game takes you around in circles. While it was mildly annoying in the other pieces of the series, in this one, it became confusing to remember what story that piece went to. This game might be better as a stand alone rather than playing it because of the others in the series.

It's not quite the usual hidden object, it's a bit more involved, in a good way. Some of the puzzles can be a bit unfathomable but it's a great value game.

So you played the previous three games... You are excited to find out what The Mentor will reveal to you. You are excited to see what other secrets or reveals you will get in this game... You open it up with your shaking hands, watch the opening, create a profile andddddd... well this isn't what you expected to happen.

The only way I can describe it: Alternative Universe. Treat it as a "DLC". If you really want, a buddy who was really taken with the story suggested that this is what The Mentor shows Kate her life would be if she made certain choices.

Oh the game is really pretty, has good music/sound effects and they added in new mechanics to puzzles and even Hidden Object areas became a puzzle (until you play the Bonus Chapter). However, IF you click "Skip" on the puzzle... they will no longer show you the solution.

The game also went with better game play design versus the story. There is a story... but it doesn't match the previous three games. I just literally think those Lancasters are from a different world/dimension, because they are so different! I don't mind if the voices change, but details? Well okay... let's just keep going.

There is a new addition of "helpful items" and "Arya the kitty" for you to use with puzzles. You will play as Emily, who you really don't know anything about... apart from tiniest things. My main question: She just met these people for a few seconds... why would she risk everything to save them? Was she really that bored?

Alright, so what about the "Bonus Finds?" They are much easier now! They stay in the same shape all the time, so you will have no problems noticing them. I thought the evil thing kind of looked adorable... That should be a mascot of The House itself.

So basically... we don't learn much of anything. Apart from the Lancasters can create objects and they are crazy when evil. Can you guess the ending? I bet you can!

I am only being a bit hard on the game, because I really liked it so much. I even recommend playing it, if you take a look at it from a different angle. If you don't care about the story, but enjoy the game play: well you are all set then. The rest, judge for yourself.

Still thank you for the alternative version/"DLC" addition to the game series :)
